In 2016 Lynnewood celebrated its 50th anniversary! Events were scheduled throughout the year, leading up to a full Jubilee weekend in early October!

Epiphany Sunday began the 50th anniversary year with a traditional service and special music. The season of light ushered in our Jubilee Year. The designating of every 50th year as a “Jubilee” comes from the Hebrew Bible. It is a reminder, just like the commandment to observe the weekly Sabbath, that God has created everything. We celebrate our blessings!

The kick-off anniversary community event was a Jubilee concert to benefit Open Heart Kitchen. The guest performers were renowned musicians, Jim and Jean Strathdee. The concert proceeds benefited Open Heart Kitchen, a nonprofit agency that Lynnewood helped to found. Even in the early years, when Lynnewood struggled to make ends meet, the church gave generously to outreach programs, such as Open Heart Kitchen.

The community was invited to join us for an Open House celebrating Lynnewood’s 50th anniversary! Children enjoyed an egg hunt, and everyone met and greeted our neighbors.

Lynnewood hosted a 60s-themed “Happening” with dancing, fashion show, games, and snacks in the style of the 60s when our church was founded.

Our Jubilee Dinner featured an elegant meal and program, with invited former pastors and charter members present.

The Jubilee Celebration culminated during worship services with World Communion served by former pastors, special music, and brunch after worship. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Staci Current, preached as we celebrated 50 years as a church.
